A Christian Community of
Recovery
Mission and Vision Statements:
Chad's Hope Teen Challenge exists to provide
men with an effective and comprehensive Christian faith-based
solution to life controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to
become productive members of society. Chad's Hope
Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound,
emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and
spiritually alive.
Our vision is to provide complete prevention and
recovery to men, women and youth throughout the Commonwealth of
Kentucky and beyond. This complete program will include a
prevention program for youth and residential and non-residential
programs for men and women of all ages.
The dynamics of our mission are:
-
To provide a relevant prevention program for
youth to stop addictions before they start.
-
To provide residential treatment centers for
men, women, and youth in Kentucky and beyond
-
To provide non-residential treatment options for
those unable to enter a residential facility.
Recovery
begins with a change in behavior and the elimination of blinding
life-controlling habits. Teaching faith in Jesus Christ alerts
behavior and instills positive values that allow a person to
holistically heal. Teen Challenge firmly believes, and results
show, that an addict must establish a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ if he wishes to find permanent freedom from bondage.
This central spiritual dynamic is the foundation on which all
aspects of the Teen Challenge program are built. Teen
Challenge rests upon one reason for success: "The Jesus factor".
Teen Challenge
does not view a person as a statistic - but rather a unique life set
apart by God. The mission of Teen Challenge is to provide a
successful faith-based solution to individuals of all ages with
life-controlling issues. Recovery programs hinge upon biblical
principles. Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become
mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically
well and spiritually alive. We know that to be successful an
addict needs to move from a self-centered paradigm to a
Christ-centered paradigm.
The Long Range
Transformation
Organization history:
Teen Challenge was founded by Rev.
David Wilkerson in 1958 and gained international recognition through
his first book The Cross and the Switchblade. Since
then, Teen Challenge has grown substantially with over 200
centers throughout the United States, as well as over 300 centers in
over 40 other countries around the world. In 1997, Clayton and
Beth Arp, who have served in Teen Challenge since 1978, became
Executive Directors of Teen Challenge of Kentucky. For
their first several years in Kentucky, Clayton and Beth focused on
reaching out to men, women and youth in jails and detention centers,
facilitating Living Free Seminars to teach churches and
community groups how to combat the drug epidemic in their
neighborhoods. In September 2008, the ministry of Teen
Challenge of Kentucky was expanded with the taking over of Chad's
Hope, a 12 month residential recovery center for adult men in
Manchester and beyond. Teen Challenge of Kentucky
currently has over 20 non-residential programs across the
commonwealth as well as two more homes available to start additional
residential programs.
